If you were going to enter a competitive eating contest, what food would you choose to speed eat?
Jelly.
I'd like to win at least one competition in my lifetime. And jelly-eating I could possibly win. :)
After finding out I had lost more weight earlier in the week, I lapsed a little. It was a treat for doing so well. Then, being as it's the end of the month and money is tight, I didn't go food shopping this week. I figured we could survive on what was in the freezer and cupboards. Survive- yes. Lose weight- no. Work is way too busy to eat properly. I'm too disorganised. I don't have any healthy snacks readily available. And...worst of all...I ate white bread! Twice!!! I'm kicking myself now because what I had lost will go back on by Monday's weigh in. Plus, I have a night out on the town tomorrow which means alcohol which means calories. All this leads to a not so happy Chelle. Payday is Tuesday and I shall be doing a huge health food shop. I'm so determined not to ruin all the hard work I've put in so far. Grrrrrrr..... :-S
What's your favorite midnight snack?
Right now, I really fancy a slice of toast and a cup of tea (with the Jammie Dodgers from the kitchen drawer).
But, I'm out of teabags...and bread... I wonder if Tony's up for going to the shop...?
I just ate dessert before my main meal. I couldn't resist it. It's something you suddenly become allowed to do when you live alone/ move away from the familial nest. The structure cannot be broken whilst living at home, but suddenly as an adult, it doesn't affect anyone else if you eat your tiramisu before your chips. It's your prerogative. I was too hungry to wait til after dinner to eat my dessert. It was in fact, too delicious to wait for. So, that's what I have done and I thought I would share. :)
Is it possible to die/ explode/ keel over from an overdose of pasta? If so, I might be on my way out the door. I think I'm likely to go via the explosion route. I only ate a small bowl of cheese and bacon pasta bake, with a slice of garlic bread, but it feels (and looks, unfortunately) like I've eaten three roast dinners in succession. My stomach is rotund and pregnancy-esque and I think I'm stretching my skin beyond all recollection of its former smooth self. Help! Send the doctor! Pasta has taken over my body and there's gonna be an explosion!
Uch. I feel quite sick now.
What's your best tip for those who are traveling on a budget?
Eat lots for breakfast. Cheap and cheerful breakfast. Bacon, eggs, bagel, the whole shabang. It keeps you going 'til dinner (most of the time) and stops you wasting money on snacking and junk food. Although we didn't always abide by this when travelling... foreign junk food was some of the best stuff we ate lol
What's the best thing between two slices of bread?
Submitted by Eric.
Mature cheddar, ham and Branston pickle. Delish.
...day off from work :)
For the first time in what seems like ages, Tony and I had the same day off from work. Mid-week days off are great because everyone else is in work, so there's nothing to disturb you. You get the whole day to yourself, if you want it.
We took advantage of not having to get up early today, by staying up late last night. It feels a bit naughty being up past midnight midweek lol! :) Late night sex is always great when you don't have to be anywhere in a few hours time. I fell asleep to An Audience with Kevin Smith and Tony's hysterical laughter in the background and didn't wake until gone 10am which was a miracle. I didn't even hear the school-kids arriving in the school across the road, and they always wake me normally.
After a lovely lie-in, I made Tony and I breakfast in bed, cwtched under the covers with him and watched tv, checked my emails, applied for a few jobs. All this was done at a slow pace- because I could. I excelled in the kitchen this afternoon, producing a very successful chicken dinner, even if I do say so myself. It takes practice, I guess, because my cooking skills are improving rapidly; I burn way less dinners now!
Sated and sleepy, we chilled a little more, before making the most of our free time and visiting family and friends that we haven't seen in what seems like ages because of our work schedules. First was our nephews, six year old Tom who was telling us about his upcoming rugby game and two month old Evan who was enjoying a chocolate pudding. It was certainly messy! Then we called for a cuppa with Dad and Beth who we definitely haven't seen in ages. Then, Lee, Laura, their crazy dogs and our handsome godson-to-be. Check out how handsome he is... this boy is going to be a model for certain.
Now, I'm gonna continue with the whole relaxing theme and sneak upstairs to watch Desperate Housewives: Season 5, whilst Tony shoots scary aliens on XBox Live.
Hooray for days off!! :)
A few months ago, I wrote THIS
I managed to get out and exercise once, then my motivation went because life became too busy.
I hadn't been on the scales since...not until this morning.
After no exercise or healthy eating, just extra work hours and heavy lifting there, I have gone down to 10st 10lbs.
Woohoo!
So chuffed :D
Spaghetti Bolognese was never one of my favourites when I was a child. As a teenager, I would eat at a friend's or cook a microwave-meal when my mum made spaghetti or lasagne. I went through a phase where I couldn't even look at it. It did begin to 'grow on me' as I reached my early twenties though, mostly because I started to cook it myself, that way I could emphasise the elements I liked and disguise or eliminate the bits I wasn't so fussed on. After years of perfecting the recipe and coking techniques required, I have finally found the recipe for perfect Spaghetti Bolognese. I have an Italian friend who even thinks mine is tastier than hers- you can't receive a better compliment than that!
Spaghetti Bolgnese (serves 4)
Ingredients:
Garlic
Chillies
Mixed herbs with oregano
1 large onion
10 medium mushrooms
250g lean mined beef
1 tin chopped tomatoes
4-500g jar of Tomato pasta sauce
250g quick cook spaghetti
Making the sauce:
1. Roughly chop one white onion and 10 mushrooms into medium chunks
2. Heat one teaspoon of olive oil in a pan.
3. Gently cook half a teaspoon of garlic, half a teaspoon of chillies and the onion, until softened.
4. Add the mushrooms until they begin to brown.
5. Incorporate the minced beef in to the pan and cook until meat has changed colour.
6. Drain off the excess fan and return to the hob.
7. Add 1 tin of tomatoes and 1 jar of sauce.
8. Sprinkle in the mixed herbs and oregano and stir.
9. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
**Special tips**
I always use "Lazy Garlic" and "Lazy Chillies"; they are quick and easy and always readily available in the kitchen cupboard.
When chopping the onions and mushrooms, don't make them too small. Also, don't overcook the onions; it's good to have some texture in the sauce and leaving them a little "crunchier" is a good idea.
Add finely chopped peppers for extra texture or more chillies for an extra kick.
Pasta and serving suggestions:
10. Boil 400ml of water in a pan.
11. Add a teaspoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt.
12. Add pasta to the water and simmer for five minutes, or unti pasta has softened.
13. Drain off excess water.
14. Serve in shallow bowls with a large helping of sauce on top.
15. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese or, if that's not to your liking, with a large helping of mature cheddar cheese.
Enjoy! :)
